This 2009 Sangiovese shows forward aromas of
concentrated red cherry and raspberry fruit along with savory and
spicy elements of cinnamon, red pepper and bay leaf. The fruit
flavors of cherry and red plum follow through to the palate with
vanilla and baking spice accents. The rich texture, bright acidity
and ample tannin structure carry these flavors through a long
finish.

Notes
While Sangiovese is an up-and-coming varietal for California, it is
a long revered traditional Mediterranean varietal which has proven
to be well suited to Sonoma County.
The Sangiovese fruit for this blend comes from
vineyards in the Alexander Valley, Dry Creek Valley, and our estate
vineyard in the Sonoma Valley. These appellations are known
for their warm summer days and cool evening breezes that provide
for excellent ripening and flavor maturity. The Syrah added
to this vintage gives depth, structure and fruit complexity to the
wine while respecting the varietal character of the Sangiovese.
Small portions of Merlot and Barbera bring some softness and spice
to complete the blend.
